Program Brief
In collaboration with the Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Sub-sector, Explore Aid conducted a comprehensive three-day training program focused on GBV case management. Designed for project staff and volunteers, this training aimed to enhance participants' capacity to effectively respond to GBV incidents within their communities.
The training covered international standards and guiding principles for GBV case management, including survivor-centered approaches, confidentiality, informed consent, and safety planning. Participants learned how to conduct comprehensive assessments, develop action plans, provide crisis intervention, and make referrals to health, legal, and psychosocial services. The curriculum also addressed self-care for caseworkers to prevent burnout and secondary trauma.
Thirty-five participants (25 female, 10 male) from local NGOs, community-based organizations, and government health facilities attended the training. Interactive methodologies included role-plays, case study analysis, and group work, enabling participants to practice skills in a safe environment. Pre- and post-training tests showed a 40% increase in knowledge of GBV case management protocols.
Key outcomes: establishment of a peer support network for GBV caseworkers; development of a simplified referral directory for Borno State; and integration of GBV case management into the routine work of participating organizations. The training has significantly improved the quality and coordination of GBV response services in target communities.
